Days Gone – Developers Talk About Dynamic Weather System and How It Will Impact Gameplay

Days Gone, Sony Bend’s upcoming open world survival game, will feature a dynamic weather system and day/night cycle, both of which will impact the way the game plays. Bend Studio’s John Garvin and Jeff Ross, who’re working as co-directors on the game, gave several interesting new details on these features in an interview after their E3 showing.

In the interview, they revealed that the in-game weather will have an impact on how man freakers (which is what the zombies are called in the game) will be out in the open, meaning that, for instance, when it’s snowing, you will encounter a lot more of them in the open world. Other than that, the time of day within the game will also govern their behaviour- infected enemies will be stronger during the night, as an example. The words “dynamic open world” were used during the interview, meaning that all these moving parts will come together to determine how all the elements in the game’s world behave and react, not just with respect to the players, but also each other.

What’s more, the weather will also affect other gameplay elements, such as driving your motorcycle, meaning that driving sections will change on the basis of snow, rain and other such elements.
